Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside announce new album “Untamed Beast” and premiere album opening track

sallieee

Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside’s new record ‘Untamed Beast’ (Fargo Records, February 19th) is a visceral rock and roll romp. Like a “cross between Ella Fitzgerald and Tom Waits” (Mashable) Sallie has established herself as one of the most powerful female voices in indie rock. Ford and her group – Tyler Tornfelt (upright bass), Ford Tennis (drums), and Jeffrey Munger (lead guitar) – recorded the album’s 11 tracks with Adam Landry (Deer Tick, Diamond Rugs) and Justin Collins at Jackpot! Studios in the band’s hometown of Portland, Oregon. The band will preview tracks from the new album during their new European tour which will start this saturday at Blues Sur Seine Festival, near Paris.

Listen and download for free “They Told Me” here.

On the new album the band creates a powerful statement on finding freedom through defying conformity. Through clever (often racy) turns of phrase, Sallie twists traditional notions of gender and genre. She says “it’s time for a girl to infiltrate the boys world of rock n roll and grab it by the balls. To me rock n roll isn’t a genre, it’s an energy.” From the exuberantly sexy “Do Me Right” to the free-spirited cry of “Party Kids,” ‘Untamed Beast’ has a lust for life.

‘Untamed Beast’ is the follow up to 2011’s ‘Dirty Radio’ (Fargo Records) which Brooklyn Vegan called “phenomenal [and] monumental.” In 2011 Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside made their national television debut on Letterman, were one of the most talked about new performers at Bonnaroo, the Newport Folk Fest and Bumbershoot, and were championed by Jack White and The Avett Brothers.

Meet House Of Wolves, new addition to the Fargo roster

Rey field back

House of Wolves is the music project of Rey Villalobos, the band name’s origin coming from the translation of Villa-lobos from Spanish to English.  A Los Angeles native, Villalobos’ family originates from two different sides of the globe – Cananea Sonora México and Francavilla al Mare on the Italian Adriatic Coast. Rey grew up a classically trained pianist, citing Chopin as his first and main musical influence.
House of Wolves debut album Fold In The Wind presents a warm, ethereal, and poetic collection. While beautifully eerie in acoustic form, the songs are filled with “colorful symphonic sustain that decorates spacious arrangements” blended with Villalobos’ haunting melodies and tender voice they call to mind Elliott Smith, Sufjan Stevens, and Beach House.

New Track “My Love Won’t Wait” & The Bloom and The Blight album trailer premiere on NPR’s all songs considered blog

Known throughout their young career for a tireless tour schedule, Two Gallants will return to form and embark on a massive North American and European tour this fall.

The Bloom and the Blight is the work of a band that has matured and redefined itself, and the album is imbued with a palpable sense of personal catharsis. Opening tracks “Halcyon Days” and “Song of Songs” illustrate the type of build to explosion that’s omnipresent throughout the album, and “My Love Won’t Wait” – with a menacing chorus underscored by a pounding backbeat – is an epic, booming anthem.  The gentler “Broken Eyes” – all voices, guitar, harmonica, and tambourine – has already become a fan favorite with its rousing, harmony-filled final verses, while the cinematic “Ride Away” soars on Adam Stephens’ raspy howl and Vogel’s relentless drumming. The songs have a dark side and a dynamic sonic heft, yet a sense of salvation and resolve courses throughout: an urgent, emotional poignancy stemming in part from Stephens’ recovery from a serious van accident in 2010.

Produced by John Congleton (The Walkmen, Explosions In The Sky, St. Vincent) at Berkeley’s legendary Fantasy Studios and in San Francisco’s Tiny Telephone studio, The Bloom and the Blight moves away from Two Gallants’ more folk and blues-based past, representing the duo’s ferocious live show and their past steeped in punk and grunge. The album simultaneously maintains the thoughtful storytelling and eloquent lyricism for which the band has become known, and contains gorgeous, quieter moments like the finger-picked ballad “Sunday Souvenirs” and the dreamy, unearthly “Decay” (the first Vogel-penned song on a Two Gallants album).
